Which form of the Divine Office does Hours follow?
Hours implements the Breviarium Romanum under the 1960 rubrics promulgated by Pope John XXIII. Those rubrics took effect in 1961 and were incorporated into the 1961 Roman Breviary.
Is Hours based on the 1962 Office?
No. Hours follows the 1960 rubrics, which took effect in 1961 and were incorporated into the 1961 Roman Breviary. The year 1962 is only the civil-date start of the app’s release corpus, not the name of the Office.
Does “1960” describe the calendar year?
No. It identifies the rubrical system. Hours calculates the appropriate office for the civil date you select.
Is English required?
No. Latin is the primary presentation. English translations can be shown or hidden from the prayer options.
Does Hours include Gregorian chant?
Yes. Hours renders responsive Gregorian notation for the included chants and provides a cantor guide for tempo, transposition, phrase looping, and synchronized practice.
Does Hours require an account or internet connection?
No account is required. Included office content works locally. A network connection may be used to obtain signed content corrections.
